Description

Each time I start Workrave it asks 'Do you want to allow this program to make changes to this computer'. It does not appear anywhere, not in the tray, not on the taskbar. I cannot get to it's settings.

Do you get this question when you start Workrave or when you start the installer you downloaded from our website? Does Workrave.exe show up in the task manager: Press Control-Shift-Escape and select the processes tab. Does the list contain Workrave.exe? Wortkrave 1.9.3 contains a bug that allows you to hide both the main window and the tray icon making Workrave inaccessible. This bug in fixed in: http://snapshots.workrave.org/20110111/workrave-win32-v1_9_3-16-gbfb2206b99-20110111-installer.exe

(In reply to comment #1) > Do you get this question when you start Workrave or when you start the > installer you downloaded from our website? I get this question each time I try to start Workrave, after already having installed it once. > Does Workrave.exe show up in the task manager: Press Control-Shift-Escape and > select the processes tab. Does the list contain Workrave.exe? 1. At installation I set Workrave to start with Windows. However I do not see it in the task manager processes after I start Windows. 2. When I click on the program icon, I get the above question. Once I say 'yes' I do see Workrave in the processes, but nowhere else. 3. Workrave does not start immediately, and sometimes does not start at all. Sometimes it starts all of a sudden hours later. 4. I cannot get to it from anywhere to edit its default settings. > Wortkrave 1.9.3 contains a bug that allows you to hide both the main window and > the tray icon making Workrave inaccessible. Thanks for assisting - it is a great program and I really want to use it. Best, Mariya PS - I am on Windows 7.

I am with workrave-win32-v1_9_2-62-g38d6df67e3-20101205-installer I had 1.9.3 installed but breaks were freezing at 29 seconds each time, so I was advised here to install this older version. So the fix suggested does not apply to the version I am using.

I assume you are referring to my advice in http://issues.workrave.org/show_bug.cgi?id=942#c7. That was about a week before 1.9.3 was released, so it's unlikely that you downgraded from 1.9.3 to 1.9.2-62 :-) You probably upgraded from 1.9.2 to 1.9.2-62. The difference between 1.9.2-62 and 1.9.3 is minimal (and limited to the Linux version of Workrave). Many users have reported that 1.9.3 fixes the monitoring problems. So installing http://snapshots.workrave.org/20110111/workrave-win32-v1_9_3-16-gbfb2206b99-20110111-installer.exe should be safe :-) About the 'Do you want to allow this program to make changes to this computer' and startup delays: I have no idea what is causing this; it's not a message Workrave is displaying. Perhaps some virus protection/malware protection program is blocking Workrave. If Workrave starts successfully and you can access the preferences: try to disable networking. In bug 942 you mentioned that 1.9.2-62 works correctly. So I assume that the problems you describe in this bug report started at a later time. Did anything change on your computer before Workrave started to misbehave? (for example a new virus scanner)

Hi Rob, Thanks for helping! The link appears to be broken..? Yes, problems started gradually, now Workrave doesn't even launch if I click it. No changes to the computer, AVG Anti-Virus Network Edition has been running on it all along. Perhaps I should check in it's settings & see if I can give Workrave permission to do whatever. Pls help with the link so I can try the version you are suggesting. Tnx again! Mariya

(In reply to comment #5) > Pls help with the link so I can try the version you are suggesting. Weird. The snapshot has been deleted. I'm not sure that should happen. Please find the current snapshot at http://snapshots.workrave.org/20110118/workrave-win32-v1_9_3-17-g0101db5baf-20110118-installer.exe It is identical to the one Rob suggested, except for a minor and unrelated change.
