Would it be possible to develop an Android app version of workrave?

When I first saw this bug, I was thinking: What exactly would the workrave android app do? Warn me when I'm fiddling with my phone too long? I wouldn't much like that. Then again, maybe I should have asked you what the app should do ;-)

Anyway... I was idly walking in the corridor just now, waiting for my break to end. Problem is, when I'm not behind my computer, there's no way of telling whether the break has ended. So I guess it would be nice if I received a notification on my phone, urging me to go back to work.

Any thoughts?

Hi Kees - yes the original idea of this enhancement was that it would warn you if you were spending too long on your phone in much the same way as the PC version works.

Although, notifications on your phone for when your PC break has ended would be a nice extra feature.

By my side, I need an android workrave app because often you can't install any application on the working machine, so you need another "way" for counting the time. Hence I thought, an android app that notify you (maybe with a custom vibration pattern) the passage of time. Yes this is not exactly what Workrave do, but it's better than nothing!

This is my idea, quite different from previous (not a simple porting of the desktop application, however more easy to do) ideas

For this purpose, may I recommend the "Yata" app? I've set it to vibrate every five minutes (to remind me to do exercises).

yes, there are some timer apps on the store.
however, none it's "workrave": exercises images, detailed statistics, forced rest break, ...

I would love to see an android app for Workrave - We are all addicted to our smartphones (At least I am). It's a struggle for me not to pick up my phone while on break and use that instead.

I hope that this app could lock you out of your phone when you are using it too much.
The app could function like this:
When either the phone or the computer is on a break, both devices are locked and show the break timer (and stretches).
If you have a break timer set up for every 20 minutes of work, you spend 15 minutes on the computer and 5 minutes on the phone, that could trigger the break.

This would also help other types of RSI like De Quervain syndrome ("smartphone thumb", "Android thumb"). It is known that the use of the phone is also a contributor of RSI.

I am not a professional programmer, so I am not sure of the complexities involved in this. I would love to be a beta tester for the software.
We all appreciate workrave and would love to see it thrive. I have been raving about the software and have spread the name around to most of my friends and family.
