Description
re**@gm**.com Nov 29 2009 17:46:15 UTC
I installed WorkRave and noticed that the timers for micro-break and rest break are frozen as if there was some keyboard or mouse activity , but there isn't. So, I tried to disconnect my mouse (an wireless optical mouse ) and the timer began to work. I believe that WorkRave somehow is interpreting some movement of the mouse, even when the mouse is still.

The timers froze? By default Workrave timers will count down only when there is activity. A laser mouse can misfire causing Windows and Workrave to think the mouse is being continually moved (activity) when it is not. Another sign of this is if you have a screensaver set to come on during inactivity, but that screensaver never actually comes on when you are inactive. Disconnect the mouse and examine the optical sensor on its bottom and check for hairs or smudges. If I have misinterpreted your report please let me know. Thanks, Ray

I'm talking about the timers like the micro-break. On a micro-break a popup appears showing a timer with the time to stop the activity on the computer. But, this timer is freezing at 28 seconds (my micro-break period is 30 seconds). Only when I disconnect my mouse, the timer start to count down. I've already checked for hairs or smudges on my mouse optical sensor and didn't find any problem. The most curious thing is that I'm not having any problems with screensavers and power options (like turning off the monitor after some time) even with the optical mouse connected.

Created attachment 202 registry file to enable lowlevel activity monitor in version 1.9.0 Hello, Thank you for your follow up. I can't say for certain that your mouse is causing this issue, even though that would seem to be most likely. Here's a possible solution based on what you described. Attached is a registry file that you can use to enable lowlevel activity monitoring in Workrave 1.9.0. workrave_monitor_lowlevel.reg This might help your situation. If it makes things worse, you can use the registry file I attached in the previous post to reset the activity monitor. workrave_monitor_reset.reg Exit workrave and double-click workrave_monitor_lowlevel.reg to add the file to the registry. Next restart Workrave and use as normal. Please don't forget to follow up with us after you have tested it for an amount of time. Thanks, Ray

I've switched to Windows 7 and the problem didn't happened again. I'll try your suggestion on Windows Vista.
