Description
Ola Lindberg  Nov 13 2007 11:13:26 UTC
Sometimes when the micro break or break reminder windows appears my computer freezes for several seconds (sometimes as much as 10 seconds).

I saw the following issues that might be related:

* http://issues.workrave.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=370 I am also using a Wacom tablet. Until latest release of Gimp and Inkscape I had similar problems in those (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=154657).

* http://issues.workrave.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=548

Please let me know if I can do anything to help.

I might have one more comment. I'm not sure but it seems like the problem occurs when a reminder (micro break, break or daily limit) pops up on the screen and I ignore it until it goes away (OK I shouldn't do that, but sometimes I do). It's not every time though..

Hi, thanks for your report. IIRC Workrave 1.8.6 or some future version is going to include GTK+ 2.12.

Please describe what happens when your computer freezes. The display freezes, input freezes? Do you hear a micro-break sound indicating that there is a micro-break? I'm wondering if Workrave actually forces the micro-break, and the micro-break window is incorrectly off screen somewhere.

Do you have Workrave's applet running in your taskbar? The next time you experience a freeze, please consult the applet timers to see if they are continue to count down, are frozen, or reset. Also please note the sensitivity of the timers (whether or not they suspend when inactive).

Can you put that in perspective for me...

I think that would be a good explanation. I'm not sure but whenever it has happened it feels like everything is back to normal again if I wait 10 seconds (the length of my micro breaks). That would also explain why it doesn't always unlocks the computer again (if it is a work break that has locked the computer).

I have been more careful not to continue working when the break reminder pops up and I haven't had any problem the last couple of days.

I haven't the applets enabled but I'll see if I can remember to enable them when I'm back at work and report back (I'm not having the same problems on a similar setup (Windows, Wacom and Workrave) at home).

I'm not sure what you mean. So clarify and I'll be glad to explain. I included the note cause it seems like the Wacom tablet has some issues with GTK on Windows (since I have had similar problems in the other programs). I'm sorry if it's totally irrelevant for you.

I'm curious as to whether you have any problems using Workrave, similar to what is reported as gnome bug 154657.

thanks

No I wouldn't say that the problems are similar as the problems used to be in Gimp and Inkscape. I used to have some problem with performance when hovering over the status windows in Workrave but they seems to be gone now (and they weren't any big problem either).

I have enabled the panel and the status windows now and I'll try to get it fail on the micro breaks. I had one idea last night that the failure was after ignoring the breaks 3 times and it would then force a break which didn't display.

I tried to wait out the breaks until it forced and the time to next micro break was reset after ignoring the 3rd break reminder. I didn't see any blocking of the screen though... Not sure what it means.

To clarify
---

> input freezes?

The input freezes (since I don't allow inputs during breaks). I can do a crtl-alt-delete to kill Workrave but anything else (but waiting) isn't possible to do. I'll make it block my screen as well and see if that helps.

It seems that break windows not always appear on top of other windows. If you do a 'show desktop' (windows-D), you may see the break window for a short while. This appears to be fixed in the latest builds (At least I haven't seen this problem lately).
