Workrave is very unpredictable on my new HP Laptop running Windows XP. I have been a user for several months and never had a problem, but now I find that it the timers are frequently paused and no amount of keyboard activity will start them. I have even tried quitting and restarting the application, but the icon in the system tray has a red slash through it, the Mode is stuck on "Suspended" despite my attempts to change it, and the timers do not move. Is this a known issue, perhaps having to do with suspend/resume, or the external USB keyboard I use? I have tried several times to isolate the problem but cannot determine it. Thank you.

Hello, There is a timer issue in 1.8.4 but I don't think it's related to what you describe. Are you sure you're using 1.8.4? Did you install Workrave? Do you remember choosing minimal or full install? Do you suspend Workrave, or does it suspend itself? Is Workrave using the English language? Is networking enabled? Please check. Do you have any anti-virus or anti-hook software installed? If Workrave is operating in suspended mode the activity monitor is suspended. And if you also have "Suspend timer when inactive" enabled, the timers will stop and eventually reset because the activity monitor is suspended.

Thank you for the reply. In answer to your questions: + The About menu says 1.8.4 + I think I did Full Install, because I wouldn't have had the GTK toolkit. + Workrave suspends itself, and I have not been able to discern what user action precedes it. + English language is used. + Networking is not enabled + It looks like I have something called Sygate Security Agent running, which I'm embarrassed to say I hadn't considered. Does Workrave give an error when it cannot set its hook? Thanks again.

i think this is a duplicate of #598 Either - install nightly build - open mainwindow and change mode there - right click on tray icon, then right click on Mode menu, then right click on 'normal'. If you don't right click on the Mode menu (but wait for the menu to appear without clicking), it submenu won't work....

Hi: I do not have a compiler to build the nightly build on Win32, so I am left with the other options. I have not identified a reproducible use case, but the problem seems not to occur if the main timer window remains open. Once I close that window, the incidence of this "stuck in suspend" problem is much higher. Any particular tips I should try to help you identify this? Or should we assume it's intermittent and rare enough that it's not a top priority?

bug #598 was fixed several months ago, and if this bug is a duplicate then the problem you describe should not appear when you use a recent nightly. you do not need to do any compiling. http://workrave.org/download/snapshots/20070817/workrave-win32-20070817-installer.exe
