While version 1.8.3 works fine, with 1.8.4 the window flashes only once a bit and then immediately vanishes.  Break windows still come up, but the main window remains hidden, thus blocking me from entering the menu.

Which window vanishes? Please try Workrave 1.8.5, and tell us if you experience the same problem.

Doesn't appear in 1.8.5.
