Da**@me**.com reports:

I've been using WorkRave on a Windows XP machine for 3-4 weeks now. Cool app! I wanted to let you know of a bug.

I have Timer and Rest Break enabled, but not Daily Limit. I have the Status Window disabled, but the Applet enabled. I have turned off Prompt Before Breaking, and Suspend Timer when Inactive. I have two monitors with an expanded desktop across both (not a mirrored display).

The bug: Sometimes when the applet pops up (it doesn't matter whether it's the rest break or the timer), the green status bar that indicates how much time is left just freezes. I have my rest break set to 20 seconds, and it'll usually stop around 18 if it decides to. I've tried to notice if there is a pattern as to when it happens (ie: was my mouse on the 2nd display, or was I doing some particular action) but I can't pinpoint it to anything. What finally prompted me to write about it is that it just happened again, but the timer was working just fine. Around 8 seconds left I moved the mouse pointer into the applet area, and then the window started flashing an orange border and the timer froze. This is semi-repeatable: I set the timer on rest 5 seconds every 10 seconds so I could play with it. Whenever I "interacted" with the applet (sometimes by moving the pointer into it's area, sometimes by moving it out when the pointer originally started inside the applet area, sometimes when clicking in the applet area, sometimes not, and it didn't seem to matter which monitor I tried it on) it would cause the green status bar to freeze and/or the orange border to flash.

It should be noted that I can always click skip to make it go away: I don't know how long it's been since it froze but at least it still responds. However sometimes I have to click it twice, the first click doesn't work.

It should also be noted that the rest of the applet does not freeze. If it shows exercises, those work fine (and the exercise timer doesn't freeze but keeps operating). If it shows "next rest break in MM:SS", that time keeps counting down too. It's only the green status bar that freezes.

Thanks!

Additional info:

I wanted to let you know of another "symptom" which may or may not be related to this (I'll let you decide).

Occasionally WorkRave kicks on when my screen is locked. [ctrl-alt-delete, click Lock Computer]. I know it has because I can hear it's sounds. If while it's running, I enter my password to unlock the screen, I see the desktop instead of WorkRave but I am subsequently unable to type in any window, or left-click anything. The only solution I've found is to reboot the computer. I believe this lockup is related to this same bug: I think WorkRave is freezing in the same manner behind my locked screen, with an added problem that unlocking the screen causes the WorkRave GUI to disappear so I can't dismiss it, but it's still active in the foreground and capturing all my keyboard and mouse input.

It's highly likely that fixing the original bug may fix this symptom too, but I wanted to bring it to your attention nevertheless.

Hi, check out:

Vista: Workrave not modal / coming to front - bug #587

Rest counter doesn't go down - bug #610

610 is no longer a problem for me since I installed a recent nightly. 587 is a problem sometimes. I haven't looked at the source yet.
