Description
Arnold Oostenbrink  Mar 11 2004 07:28:37 UTC
When running WorkRave 1.4.1, my (Windows 2000 Pro SP3) PC sometimes stops
responding for a certain amount of time (usually about five seconds). When this
has happend, it usually happens several times in a row (like five times in two
minutes). I am not using workrave's networking capabilities. Several colleagues
of mine (same setup) have experienced the same problems after installing
workrave.

I've tried to find the cause, this is what I've found so far:

Network traffic (is my PC waiting for a network request?) 0%
CPU Usage (Is my PC busy with something?) 100%

When I shutdown workrave, the afformentioned problems do not occur.

All of the above lead me to believe that workrave is the cause.

Could you please give the following nightly build a try:

http://workrave.org/download/snapshots/20040312/workrave-win32-20040312-installer.exe

We have had no other reports of similar problems so far. Yet, the parts of
Workrave that could cause the problems you mention have undergone large changes.
These changes might impact the problems you are experiencing. Please let me know
how the nighly build performs...

I'm not sure if this is the same bug (WinXP sp1)... I've been a happy workrave
user since begin summer last year. No problems whatsoever. Love the program. But...

Last week I started my computer and it hung on a ZoneAlarm message asking if
Workrave is allowed to access the local network. But my keyboard and mouse were
locked (however, I could do a ctrl+alt+del, but I think processes were that
heavy(?) that I haven't been able to actually see the whole taskmanager).

The night before I've been working a lot, and have ignored some workrave
messages :-o ... So maybe workrave thought it should prevent from working? Yet
no message appeared for exercises, and I've also tried to remove and reinstall
workrave 1.4.1, removed all registry entries by hand (there were still some) and
still nogo.

The only way I got Workrave started is by shutting off zonealarm. Not the way I
want to be connected to the internet... :)

My problem however seems to be seems to be solved with the latest nightly. Even
when I activate network support there are no lock ups (while zonealarm asks
gently if it should give workrave this access)...

I tried the nightly of 2004-04-26.
