Description
Kees-Jan Dijkzeul Mar 7 2003 05:08:27 UTC
Test environment: Laptop, Windows XP profesional, system tray settings are to clear unused icons, but wr should always be visible. Testcase: Start wr Expected result: The wr icon should appear in the system tray and stay there Actual result: Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't

Could you give me the officla XP definition of an unused icon? If XP defines unused icons as in icons that do not change (read: animate), then the current behaviour is 100% correct.

I can't find an "official" definition, but the mechanism is somewhat like not showing unused items in the start menu: If you don't click on an item often, it is not immediately visible. There is an extra item containing two arrows, to show the hidden items. Current behaviour is guaranteed to be incorrect: 1. I tell XP to never remove the wr icon, but nevertheless it is not visible 2. Even if you tell XP to show the hidden items, it still isn't there. If I had to guess, wr's attempt to put an icon into the system tray is failing. It just isn't there, no matter how you look at it.

I have "Hide inactive icons" activated, and set the Workrave icon to "Always show". Yet, I cannot reproduce this bug. Meanwhile, 1.4.0 has had some changes (Workrave now notices when Explorer crashes and will try to reinsert the tray icon in the new Explorer taskbar that is created when Explorer restarts), so perhaps this behaviour has changed now. Could you please check if this is still an issue?

this still is an issue. I noticed, though, that wr is not the only icon that is occasionally missing. Others (most notably the task manager) manage to get lost as well.
