Is it planned to support the new Gnome System Tray that follows the
freedesktop.org specification? That would be so much nicer than the current
window that is permanently gets lost somewhere ("Stay on top" doesn't seem to
work). Debian already has a "system-tray-applet" package in experimental and
AFAIK the upcoming KDE 3.1 will also be compatible with the freedesktop.org

BTW, "Stays-on-top" does not work for metacity < 2.4.2. Versions older than 2.4.2 do not support the required window manager hints. stays on top works fine with sawfish... Prelimenary applet support is in CVS. Both a native applet and a system tray applet is supported.
