I'm encountering the bug described at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kde-workspace/+bug/966779 Steps to reproduce: 1. Do an install of Kubuntu Precise. 2. Start up KDE, install xrestop and workrave. 3. Start xrestop, observe the 'misc' field for the plasma-desktop process is holding steady. 4. Start workrave. Expected: The 'misc' field for plasma-desktop goes up by a little bit in xrestop, and then holds steady. Actual: With every refresh in xrestop, the 'misc' field for plasma-desktop goes up by 2. After a few days, the UI response will feel pretty sluggish.

I've just installed workrave 1.10 from https://launchpad.net/~rob-caelers/+archive/workrave and unfortunately the leak seems to have gotten worse. The 'misc' field for plasma-desktop goes up by 5 on every refresh :-(

I can confirm this bug (and just wanted to create a new bug report for it when I found this one). Tested with 1.9.4 I had to disable workrave on my work machine due to that, since the work machine is always-on and the memory leak got bad enough that I had to wait for minutes after arriving at the computer before I could to actual work. Which is a shame because workrave enabled me to recover from beginning RSI-problems even though I kept working. Until the problem is fixed, I’ll have to turn to type-break-mode again.

'm happy to report that the leak disappeared after upgrading the nvidia driver from 295.40 to 310.44.

Arne can you also confirm that the leak disappeared with a more recent nvidia driver? I don't run KDE myself. I will check if I see something similar with gnome.

I’ll try to test it next week.

I’m sorry that I was silent for so long. I could not test workrave for longer times anymore, because it now locks me out of my KDE: After some time KDE stops responding, though I can still move the mouse, and I have to switch to a terminal and pkill workrave to get it working again.

The bug has happened for me with NVidia driver 331.79 on Ubuntu 3.13.0-30. When I run xrestop with xrave active, the Misc part goes up by 3-5 units per update, and all window operations feel sluggish, and Xorg takes 50-70% CPU. When I stop xrave, everything becomes snappy again, and Xorg resource usage drops to a reasonable level.
