I would like to be able to turn off sound while using Workrave. Because my co-workers get annoyed with the happy bleeps every micro-pause.

This is already supported. Open the preferences. Choose 'User interface' on the left side; then the 'Sounds' tab. Set 'Sound' to 'No Sounds'.
